Delta 9 was founded by a father and son team in 2012. Bill and John Arbuthnot obtained a production license under the Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations in December 2013. One year later, in March 2014, they reached another milestone: securing a license to distribute medical cannabis, making Delta 9 the fourth Licensed Producer of medical cannabis in Canada.
Since that time, Delta 9 has grown from a team of 2 to a team of 300+ employees, and the company operates a 185,000 sq. ft. cannabis facility with over 300 Pods in production in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
From the beginning, Bill and John brought a distinct vision to the cannabis industry. They recognized that as demand for cannabis increases, growers will need a sustainable way to scale up production.
Creating a modular, turn-key, quality-assured cultivation system was the goal, and it led the founders to develop the Grow Pod.
Grow Pods are 320 sq. ft. steel shipping containers that have been repurposed to support any growing methodology. Each Pod can produce approximately 40+ kg of cannabis annually.
More than 30 employed contractors, engineers and electricians fabricate each Grow Pod. The team focuses on delivering quality and compliance in every build. The Pods are then customized for flowering, trimming, cloning, vegetation, research, testing, support and storage.
Delta 9’s own facility features hundreds of Pods stacked two high. The company attributes much of its success to the Grow Pods and the fact that they can produce a standardized, quality-ensured product in the secure, low-risk environment.
